Medical Coding and Billing Schools in Detroit – Require A Focus List Of Michigan schools With Online Exam Prep?

Education Admin answers:
Everest Institute’s Dearborn, MI campus offers a Medical Insurance Billing and Coding course that you can look into.
The course at the Detroit campus relates to becoming a Medical Administrative Assistant. There’s also Sanford-Brown College with campuses in Dearborn and Grand Rapids.
Among online schools for medical billing and coding across the country, you have the American InterContinental University, Performance Training Institute, Career Step and Ultimate Medical Academy, among others.
Of course, one of the top “must have” qualifications is the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Being the largest association of its kind in the US, passing this exam gives you maximum career advantage.

Medical Billing and Coding Education
Online medical billing and coding courses are the perfect solution to continuing education requirements for young MBAC professionals. Many careers require individuals to obtain CEUs, or continuing education units in order to stay certified.
According to the AAPC, 26.3 percent of the medical billers and coders surveyed in 2010 paid between $101 and $250 out-of-pocket for CEUs, professional membership fees and other resources.
Nineteen percent paid between $251 and $500, and 15.2 percent paid more than $500 every year. However, 71 percent of the respondents also either “strongly agreed” or “agreed” with the statement, “My employer pays for CEUs to keep my knowledge current.”
So, when looking for a job, it may be helpful to find out if the employer will pay for your ongoing education. Source of quote.

Allied Schools For Medical billing And Coding?
Has anyone taken Medical billing and coding through Allied Schools? If you have taken any online course with this school could you tell me about your experience with them and if you like the course and the way of teaching.
I’ve talked to someone there and she makes it sound so good and I was wondering if there was any truth in it. There website is alliedschools.com and they’re in Laguna Hills, CA.
Thanks

Education Admin answers:
I have not taken classes with them but I looked into it and not many employers in my area recognize them or except certificates from them. I would suggest before you go to any school call around to local pharmacy or medical facilities and ask some questions.

Has Anyone Taken Medical Billing and Coding Classes On Line?
I’m looking at all these online schools offering Medical coding billing, I am a bit leary, not sure if these certificates are good enough in getting a job any info is appreciated.

Education Admin answers:
I’d be really leary, too.
How about this, go to wherever you’d want to get the job, and ask them if they accept any “online” class certificates.

Can Somebody Explain About Medical Coding And Billing?
I am planing to go to school for medical billing and coding but I don’t know if it involves any accounting, I need more details.
Thank you!

Education Admin answers:
I teach medical billing and coding. You may or may not deal with accounting depending upon what your job is.
My students once they complete a billing program can be hired to do the following:
Register patients and collect co-payments, deductibles and coinsurance. This involves addition, subtraction, and using multiplication to calculate percentage.
You may be involved in entering patient demographic and insurance information into the computer.
You may spend all day on the computer verifying eligibility.
You may be hired to get authorization for surgeries.
You may submit claims electronically or on paper. The larger facilities may be electronic but many small offices still have paper.
You may post payments, do contractual adjustments (write offs) and balance bill patients. At the end of the day you might need to complete the day sheet and deposit which requires arithmetic.
You may negotiate payments with insurance companies.
If you are hired as a coder you will usually sit and extract billing information from the patient’s chart. Again it may be an electronic chart or a paper chart. You will be responsible for finding the diagnoses, procedures and then linking which procedure was done for which diagnosis.
If you work Accounts Receivable you can work off the monthly A/R report and follow up on outstanding claims and/or contact patients to set up payment plans.
As you can see, you may or may not need to do accounting. My experience has been that usually the doctor hires an accountant to deal with the quarterly taxes and the stardard accounting reports. Occasionally they have their office manager take care of it.
Should you need more clarification, write back and ask.
If you study billing at a junior college they will most likely require a basic accounting class which I recommend.

Do You Have An Idea About Which School Is Good To Enroll For Medical Billing and Coding?
I am a full time mom and I would like to get back to school and take Medical Coding and Billing. I want to know if anybody knows where to take Medical coding and billing in the San Diego area and which is not so expensive. I prefer campus class than online. But I will accept opinions for online class. Thank you.

Education Admin answers:
I believe that in order to become a coder, you have to take an exam and be a certified coder. And I don’t think it would be possible to pass the exam without training. I thought all coders needed to be certified in your area I may be wrong.
If you are looking for a class, I know you stated that you prefer to attend a class rather than take an online course but here is a link to a demo of an online course. At least you can check it out and see if online would be the thing you want to do or not. Http://www.careerstep.com/demo-cb/?uid=a1403

What Is A Good On-line School For Medical Coding And Billing?
medical coding and billing schools on-line

I would suggest your local community or technical school. They will cost WAY less than the private for profit schools, their credits should transfer (if you decide to further your education) and most offer online classes.
If you are looking for online only, I would suggest the coding programs offered by both AAPC and AHIMA.
